It's being widely reported across the internet that Zenimax will be announcing their work on an Elder Scrolls MMO next month.

First of all if you weren't expecting an MMO announcement, where have you been the past four years? Most had expected a Fallout MMO, but some of us had our heads to the ground and heard the whispers about an Elder Scrolls MMO yonks ago!

Now I know your initial reaction to the news will more than likely be "awww pish!", but I just wanted to make one thing clear.

This MMO has been in the works for over 4 years now. Zenimax, the owners of Bethesda, setup a new department called Zenimax Online to act as their MMO specialists and this department is separate from Bethesda Studios. So the important thing to take from all this is; an Elder Scrolls MMO being in the works hasn't, and won't, detract from the games Bethesda release. Skyrim is proof of that. So if you're worried an Elder Scrolls MMO means that Fallout 4 or the Elder Scrolls VI will be delayed or cancelled, don't worry. Of course I'm not speaking with authority on this, but that makes logical sense.

Personally I think an Elder Scrolls MMO is a nice little side game that I can play while waiting for the next single player Elder Scrolls and Fallout games to come out. It can serve as a distraction, in a world filled with lore I already partially understand. And I think if Zenimax Online are clever, they'll have designed the game to be as good single-player as it is multi-player so it can catch all you folks who are sworn off MMOs to part with a fee each month.

consoles & mmorpgs - not interested.

yeah, i owned 2 360 (one smelted - ROD) and played conan for a bit, so im not a completly blind hater, just a hater.
xbox360live is a DLC cashmachine, most players i knew changed their games like trousers.
mmorpging has nothing to do with roleplaying imo. roleplaying games should be like books, no good book has 1.000.000 protagonists.

i couldnt even finish skyrim due to its simplified, unbalanced, boring gameplay designed for an ADD-generaion until i started again 1 month ago, combining available mods for challenging and realistic combat (lame quests and writing cant be fixed... ever). i see a 3rd and 4th run if i can tune it to my liking / the mods im following develop the way i hope them to.

if i ever lose my job or both legs ill MAYBE check out a mmorpg but it will be the BEST available, not some bastard child.

who would give a s*** about this if it wasnt labled TESO? guild wars, wow are proven lables id check out first before games like TESO and Starwars (i was told by a wowplaying friend most wow-guys who played this returned sooner than later),

which are produced by companies (and often just by name, not by the actual talent who crafted the successful games!!!!) known for single player campains

    .

tes games rely on community fixing their shortcomings. you cant mod mmorpgs.+

    alienated fan base
they also lose ALL console gamers who made skyrim a success in the first place. i was active on some xbox forums and oblivion and skyrim were talk of the year. just because consoles cant do mmorpg and need a substitute. the strength of ES lies in a hungry console audience and hardcore modding fans. both groups are not into mmorpging out of obvious reasons.
    => concept no worky.

A MMO sounds interesting and might be a lot of fun; I think I'll definitely have a try at it once (if) its available. Got a number of friends who play and it would be interesting playing with or against others in a TES world.

No, no, a thousand times no.Why does EVERYTHING have to be multiplayer these days? For me, kind of defeats the idea of gaming as escaping from the world for a while.I do have some friends that I play WoW with, but even then on the RP servers you get jerks go on just to disrupt everyone elses RPing.Don't to it to TES (howls in anguish....)

My reaction wasnt anything like "awww pish!" It's rather fun to see what bethesda can come up with a MMO seeing that they have developed quite the bunch of amazing single player products. I only wish that they put real effort into it and dont make a fiasco out of it. Oh and monthly fees is a no-go. If they put monthly fees into the game, then count me out. Monhtly fees are nothing but money laundry and annoying to every player. They would certainly gain a lot less buyers if there was something such stupid as a monthly fee in the game. Still, cant wait to see what they come up with, just hopefully something good and free aside from the retail cd of course.
