According to Purdue's head coach Ryan Walters, he is not expected to be a prolonged absence, welcoming news overall. But even so, Dixon-Veal's availability status has been downgraded to questionable for Aug. 31, when the 2024 Boilermakers will begin their regular season by hosting Indiana State. Now, the 6-foot-9 sophom*ore has not only gotten healthy and back into the full swing of practices, but he also reportedly gained 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason. With this new frame, the tight end could see an elevated role in the passing game after just five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown last season. AUGUST 5 • ROTOWIRE Jahmal Edrine - Running drills again Edrine (knee) is running drills in the Boilermakers' fall camp, Alex Martin of The Indianapolis Star reports.Impact Edrine was pictured running drills and catching thrown footballs Thursday, the 2024 Boilermakers' second day of fall camp. Both mean the junior student has finally recovered from an ACL tear he suffered almost one year ago, a knee injury that prevented his 2023 availability. That year was expected to be Edrine's first with Purdue after an excellent 2022 he had as part of Florida Atlantic. For the 2022 Owls, Edrine logged 39 receptions for 570 yards and six touchdowns across 12 games. This time around, Edrine will look to acclimate into Big Ten football after a brutal injury. AUGUST 4 • ROTOWIRE Big Ten releases new 'Maps' commercial: Examining the Easter Eggs The Big Ten unveiled an updated version of its popular "Maps" commercial on Friday to include the four conference newcomers. AUGUST 2 George Burhenn - Partaking in first fall session Burnhenn (undisclosed) was seen participating in Purdue's first practice of fall camp, per a video published by Nathan Baird of IndyStar.Impact Burhenn was held out of Purdue's spring game, but he appears to be well on his way to a return. The tight end posted five catches for 74 yards and a score last fall, and now figures crack the Boilermakers' two-deep at tight end this season. He was only spotted in individual drills via the video, so it's unclear if Burhenn is fully healthy. Still, it's a good sign for Purdue's offense that one of its key pieces managed to return to the practice field. JULY 31 • ROTOWIRE Drew Biber - Spotted in individual drills Biber (undisclosed) was spotted in individual drills at the Boilermakers' first practice of fall camp, per a video published by Nathan Baird of IndyStar.Impact Biber was limited as a tight end in West Lafayette last season, reeling in just one catch - although it did go for 16 yards and a touchdown. He missed the Boilermakers' spring game, but appears to be working his way back to the field. He was only seen doing individual drills in the video, but any return to the field is a good sign for the tight end who will look to be full go by the time Purdue's season kicks off on Aug. 31.
